The gift of a drum will be with you for decades and for many this marks the beginning of a new time in life.  There will be an ancestral altarspace and the drums are made in a fun but sacred way to begin a relationship of magic for years to come. For many, this is a day of healing as well as making a drum. The drums are soaked in water and herbs and we will be working with these plants while we make the drums as well. In the past, the herbs have included local Sage (Artemesia), White Sage, Mullein, Uva Ursi, Juniper, and Tobacco. Working with the plants brings another dimension of energy to the drum making process for cleansing and ancestral connection.

We will be making drums outdoors in accordance with current pandemic guidelines and group comfort levels. In the case of inclement weather we will be indoors. There is plenty of room for distancing and so on.

About the drums, ethics, etc...  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

All materials are ethically sourced and of the highest quality. Drums will be made in a sacredly held container where your intentions will be honored, and the animals, trees, and materials are all honored as a part of the sacred circle of life. I have invested many hours in learning methods to make drums that both look and play amazing. I am well aware of issues of cultural appropriation and am very sensitive to that important subject. I have worked closely with native elders and healers from North America as well as South America, South Africa, Greenland, and Scotland. The intention of the work I offer is about healing the wounds of ancestral trauma that are at the core of the separation between all races and has been guided by my dreams, visions and work with indigenous traditions. If you have further questions you are welcome to contact me.

Anthropological research suggests the frame drum originated in Siberia thousands of years ago before migrating around the planet. Maybe this is true, but I prefer the timeless traditional stories that speak of its origins coming from the stars, spirit world and heartbeat of the Great Mother. Frame drums (there are many styles) have played very important roles in traditions from North and South America, Europe, Asia and all over the world. For some interesting info visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_drum where there is a compilation of various styles from over the world. Interestingly I do not see references for Native American use of this style of drum there. It would be nice to see that addition to the page.  The drums we will be making are a contemporary style, influenced by Native American and Northern European styles. Exact wrapping styles may vary between gatherings.

I offer these workshops with humility and the intention to heal, honor and lift the spirit of humanity, the earth, and all the diverse life she carries. Only in this way can we come together.
