Winter Solstice Celebration at the Labyrinth

A candlelight Winter Solstice service will be celebrated on the beautiful indoor labyrinth at First United Methodist Church. The traditions of the Christmas season have deep roots in the older, earthier celebrations of the longest night of the year. Come embrace the return of the light with this deeply spiritual, traditional celebration of the solar new year.

Rev. Barbara Middleton and Dr. Celene Lillie, Executive Director of the Tanho Center, will lead the service, and sound artists Joy Sylvia and Michael Heartsong will provide mystical sounds using a variety of instruments.

Walk the labyrinth with the mystical sounds of didgeridoos, handpan, flute, drum, vocal toning and more. The labyrinth and sound are both ancient tools for journeying within to connect, release and renew. The soundcapes will set the tone for a full hour, allowing time for you to relax and bathe in the healing space before and after your walk. The instruments played will provide a rich tonal spectrum to invoke ‘deep listening’ - a sense of becoming fully present and listening with the whole body.

There is no admission cost, but love donations are encouraged for our musicians.

Please plan to park on side streets or in public parking garages (the closest garage is at 15th and Pearl, across the street from the church) as the church parking lot will be under construction at this time.

Due to the meditative nature of this event, we kindly ask that you do not bring young children.

We look forward to sharing this space together!
