About The Event

Join us to learn some ways to connect deeply with the plant world, based on the indigenous teachings I have received from Africa and Ecuador. In  western herbalism we learn the plant medicinal properties and chemicals to understand how to heal with them. This knowledge is helpful, but in the indigenous way it is not so linear. Just like with people, too much categorizing diminishes us drastically and contains our ability to be who we really are. In order to learn the true nature of plants to heal we need to connect with the language of nature, not the intellect. Indigenous  knowledge came from a profound relationship with nature, in contrast to western ways of learning, which is based on intellectual knowledge. The language of nature is found by opening the heart, to communicater with the spiritual/emotional intelligence inherent in nature.

We will do a short walk, half a mile or so and practice the indigenous teachings. Fotr those called to it, we will work with the medicine of Tabac aka Tobacco, to help bring our minds into alignment with nature and the plant spirits. Tabac is a powerful way to connect with the spirit of plants, but if you are uncomfortable in your relationship with it,  there will be other ways shared that are even more important to understand. Whether you are just curious for self interest or a practicing herbalist, this will help deepen your understand and connection with the amazing world of plants.

Though this is not about plant identification, there will be some plant identification and learning of wild plants in the area, both edible, medicinal and poisonous.

WHERE: We will meet at the Bear Creek Park parking lot, follow directions on the map. Event is scheduled from 10am to 12:30pm but we will not be watching the clock too closely. You will be free to leave or stay as you want. There is no fee to attend, but suggested donation of $20-$30 is appreciated to honor the reciprocity. If you are short of funds, please feel free to attend and bring a small gift from the heart.
