About The Event

Please read all info below thoroughly before registration!!!

The medicine drum has long been used as a healing tool. It can be used for self healing or on others; sound healing, shamanic journey, holding space and more. The drum has the ability powerfully assist in breaking old patterns and visioning new realities. If the drum has been calling, to come into your life this workshop is for you.

For many this marks the beginning of a new chapter in life.  There will be an ancestral altar, where we will call upon the ancestors to be with us in making the drums, and to walk with us as we carry forward  the medicine of the drum.  The drums are made in a sacred way to honor the traditions  and also a fun way to begin a relationship of magic and healing. This is a day of connecting in community and healing as well as making a drum.

The drums are soaked in water and herbs and we will be working with these plants while we make the drums. In the past, the herbs have included local (Colorado) Sage (Artemesia), White Sage, Mullein, Uva Ursi, Juniper,  Tabaco, etc.. Working with the plants brings cleansing, blessing and assists with ancestral connection.

A $100 deposit covers your material cost and is required to hold your space, remainder is due in CASH (for money blessing) at time of ceremony. If cash is not possible please contact ahead of time to arrange an alternative method.

About the drums, ethics, etc...  * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

All materials are ethically sourced and of the highest quality and there are lots of prayers during the process of making the drums. All materials are honored as a part of the sacred circle of life. Michael has invested many hours in learning methods to make drums that are both functional and beautiful.  Michael has worked closely with healers and elders in North and South America and South Africa, including formal healing apprenticeship training in Ecuador. Michael is healer, and bridge of indigenous wisdom into modern society.

Anthropological research suggests the frame drum originated in Siberia thousands of years ago before migrating around the planet. Perhaps this is true, but traditional stories speak of the spirit of the drum coming down from the stars to carry the heartbeat of the Earth. Frame drums have played very important roles in North and South America, Europe, Asia and all over the world. For some interesting info visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_drum where there is a compilation of info and photos in various styles. At the time of writing this, there are not references for Native American use of this style of drum, only the larger Powwow drum. It would be nice to see that addition to the page. The drums made in the workshop are a contemporary style not connected with any particular tradition. Exact wrapping styles may vary between gatherings.

These workshops are offered with humility and the intention to help heal the wounds of humanity that keep us in conflict and lift the spirit of Pachamama, Mother Earth and support the diversity that makes life possible.
